Jam at the Wanch

10/8  ----- Last Monday, Guy (drummer from England) and I went out to the open mic at the Wanch.  The Wanch is one of the most popular underground live rock music bars in Hong Kong.  Its located in Wan Chai, about an hour away from UST campus.  I brought along my new bass, and we started jamming with the open mic coordinator, Joven, a Filipino.  Joven is a very talented singer/guitarist, and we played some popular American alternative rock songs.  This older local guy sang a couple of elvis tunes with us too.  It was good fun, and a few girls from the uni came out to see us play.
Afterwards we saw some interesting groups play.  One a blues/rock group which incorporated a pípá (Chinese traditional string instrument) into the band.  I'd never thought I'd here "whole lotta love" played on something like that.  Singer wasn't very good though, and he would just ramble on forever about nothing in between songs and Guy and I couldn't for the life of us figure out what he was saying.  He had a hybrid accent that sounded like ozzy osbourne mixed with chinese.

Later, Guy and I jammed on a few more songs with Joven and another girl from the states we met there, Lexi, who sang quite well.  Again we couldn't stay past midnight cuz we had to catch the last MTR back.  I really gotta figure out the bus system here.  Anyway, here's some pictures of the Wanch....
