Lantau Island (Tai O, Big Buddha)

11/24 --- On Saturday, I planned a trip with Rong and Sonny to Lantau Island.  Lantau Island is the largest island in Hong Kong, which also contains Hong Kong airport.  We took the MTR all the way there which took about 1.5 hours.  Our first stop was Tai O, an old fishing village on the northwestern coast.  It took us another hour bus ride to get there.  The fishing community was pretty cool.  We stopped for some lunch, haixian chaofan, seafood stirfry rice, and then also tried some other snacks which were delicious.

After that we headed to Ngong Ping 360 by bus to see the Big Buddha, which was pretty spectacular.  We walked around there for a bit, and then we took the cable car over the mountains back to our MTR station starting point.  The cable car ride was really cool, and it became so misty at one point that you could literally see nothing outside of the car.

Even the monks need their starbucks

Near the MTR station, we decided to go to Pizza Hut.  Pizza Huts are actually 5 star restaurants in Hong Kong compared to home.  Afterwards we headed back.  Pretty tiring day, but it was a great time.
